Images of the Natural World

Calendar of Events

Many of the "events" listed are celestial events. These are posted in hopes that visitors will get out into nature to experience these (sometimes breathtaking, sometimes invisible) phenomena themselves, with or without a camera.

A very common question runs something like "how did you happen to catch that full moon coming up out of the ocean right in front of..."

One of the answers is common to most photographers: "I always have a camera with me." This may sound trite but it's how some truly remarkable images have been captured.

The other answer is "I planned it." If you know what evening the full moon occurs and you know what time moonrise is and you know where on the horizon it will appear, you have a pretty strong edge over the person who says "Wow, look at that moon rise! Where's my camera?"
